MEETING MY BEST FRIEND IN NICE, FRANCE

Dream worlds do exist; I can now confidently say that.
As my semester of travels, life lessons and flights continues, I found myself traveling to the
south of France to meet my best friend. I know what you’re thinking, and I don’t know what my
life has become either. It sounds so boujee and annoying and I wish I was sorry but I am simply
not. This semester has taught me more things about myself and life than any other experience I
have had. It has been equally as unbelievable as it has been challenging, but seeing a piece of
home made it all that much better. And, of course, being in the South of France wasn’t too bad
either…LOL who am I?
We started our time in Nice immediately in awe of its beauty. The never ending, winding streets
filled with markets and the beach that was steps from our apartment. The markets were filled
with fresh seafood, flowers and the soothing smell of lavender…like I said, it was a dream. I
have never smelled fresher fish or seen more gorgeous flowers in my life. I don’t know how
anyone in Nice could ever be sad because it radiates happiness. A friend of ours studies there
(Melissa, I envy you) and she gave us the most phenomenal recommendations, so I will share
them with you all.
I was going to wait to talk about these seafood rolls, but just thinking about them makes my
mouth water so you deserve to hear about them now. Three words: George’s Seafood Rolls.
That’s all you need to know, so buy your tickets to Nice and enjoy. Needless to say, it was the
best lobster roll I have ever had in my life and the fact that we ate them on the beach listening
to waves crashing and drinking a Corona made me really feel as though my life was a movie. It
was pure bliss, as most of Nice was.
We spent our weekend exploring Nice’s beautiful cost and plethora of lovely shops. The
shopping is divine, as if I had expected anything less. In terms of breakfast, we were instructed
to go to Emilie’s for coffee and cakes and it definitely did not disappoint. It is very hard to come
by iced coffee in Europe (a tragedy, I KNOW) but Emilie’s had it and that immediately makes it a
win.
We quickly learned that random markets filled with lovely jewelry and original paintings of Nice
landscapes could take up large amounts of time in the best way. We spent at least an hour and
a half walking through a little market trying on every piece of jewelry and perusing through
multitudes of straw bags we begrudgingly didn’t buy. I have self-control, sometimes. It was a
day well spent, I’d say. Dinner that night was Di Piú, another recommendation, and it was
definitely satisfactory. The bowls are bigger than my body, but other than that, the pasta and
location were divine.

We took a mini day trip to Monaco which if you thought I sounded boujee before, Monte-Carlo
was a whole different situation. It is a place that drips of wealth and prestige which was
inspiring and also mind-blowing. I have never seen fancier cars in my life, truly. We did the
obligatory Monte-Carlo Hotel pic because Selena Gomez, DUH. Then we found out it was the
Masters Tournament and Novak Djokovic was in town…we FREAKED. We didn’t see him; in case
you were wondering. Yes, we are devastated. It was a short, but very worthwhile trip. I’d
recommend it all to anyone visiting Nice.

Our trip was filled with wine, good company and so much pasta. And, yeah I know, I wasn’t
even in Italy. It does make me scared for my next journey to Italy, but I’ll let you guys know how
that goes. All in all, it was an unforgettable trip with my favorite people. Surround yourself with
great people, life is so much better that way. Don’t forget to be kind to everyone and do what
makes your heart happy.
XOXO,
Simply Complicated
