THE IMPORTANCE OF SPONTANEITY

I know there are so many clichés about living in the moment and taking chances, but there is so much meaning behind them that is easily overlooked. We spend so much time on our phones planning our “ideal life” and living in the fantasy of someone else’s “life.” I do it too and to be honest, I enjoy it, but the feeling I get when doing something completely removed from social media or something spontaneous is hard to compare to. I think what I have realized recently is that if we don’t stop planning our seemingly “perfect” future, we are never going to enjoy the moments we have right now.

I spontaneously bought tickets to see Harry Styles over the weekend and it was one of the best decisions and nights I have had in my life. Not only because it was Harry (he was phenomenal and changed my life, oh and SO hot) but because I truly lived in the moment. I told myself when this new year started that I would stop videotaping my life for the world to see. I realized that at the end of the day, I was posting videos for other people to see and envy rather than posting things for myself. So when I went to his concert, I told myself I would just enjoy the music, sing, dance, do whatever I wanted…for me. I can honestly say, it was an experience and a show I will never forget because it did to me what concerts were made to do. It allowed me to escape my normal, hectic life and be present in something so beautiful and entertaining.

I always say that concerts and live theater are some of the most important parts of life because they give us an opportunity to watch the purest form of art right before our eyes. The feeling I get when I see someone perform that I admire or that I sing along to in my car every day is unmatchable. I pledge to live my life as much in the moment as I can. Yes, I love pictures and capturing life’s amazing moments, but the feeling of seeing something and knowing your memory will be all that you have of it, is really special and something I think many of us don’t have anymore.

It is even more important to find and cherish the people that will be spontaneous with you. It is the people that share these memorable life moments with you that show you what life is really all about. So let’s all live in the moment and like Harry Styles said: let’s never forget to “treat people with kindness.” My personal life motto is to always be kind because you can be anything you want in this world, but if you aren’t kind, none of it matters.

Xoxo,
